Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene. Being hydrophobic, non-wetting, high density and resistant to high temperatures, PTFE is an incredibly versatile material with a wide variety of applications, though it's perhaps best-known for its non-stick properties.
The exceptional strength of the carbon-fluorine bond and a high molecular weight give PolyTetraFluoroEthylene (PTFE), a set of outstanding properties. Such properties include wide temperature use range of -180°C to +250°C. PTFE is resistant to virtually all corrosive chemicals and is suitable for almost all chemicals with the exception of fluorine, some fluorochemicals and molten alkali metals. The material is also recognised as remarkable in its resistance to flame. It is classified as a non-flammable material in air.
